If you have read any of the other arcane books you will a!ready know about Zola. I would have liked a little more depth to the storyline. This is a quick novel that didn't take long to read. Hopefully there will be more books with Zola in them or with her pride included. I would have liked more details about what led to her mothers craziness and what happened after Zola left her mothers pride or what made her stronger. Overall, I recommend reading this short.Product details

Zola is a lioness that has been banished and now leaves in New Orleans, in a city dominated by werewolves. When the past catches up with her, it is time for her to trust and love again. Nice short story.
I really liked the story and I loved the character of Zola. I wish that this short story would be turned into an actual novel with more character development and more details. For it to be a short story though, it was really good, with lots of action and a love story. Parts of it (including the end) felt kind of choppy and I was left with a feeling of wanting more, more Zola, more Walker, more everything. Even so, I just purchased Crux because I'm looking forward to reading more of her shifter series. Can't wait!
I was excited to see some of Moira's shifter series for free on promotion this weekend and downloaded two. This was the first one I read. This novella had some fairly interesting ideas in it and I think if I had read some of her other works first, the story would have been better. I think I was missing enough of the back story that the story lost some of the depth. That being said, I enjoyed it and plan to go to Crux next, since I believe it is the actual first book of the series. This is an adult read, for certain sure.
Not the strongest book in the series, but was interesting to see some of Zola's story unfold. If you're a fan of the series - you must read this. To me, this seemed like a good way to introduce another whole series intertwining with the Southern Arcana one. I really was left wanting a prequel, or simply more depth given to the Pride's world and characters. I am hoping more is learned about Zola's Pride in other books, or that the Pride gets a series of their own which intertwines with the current Southern Arcana series. Then again, I am always left feeling the same way about the magicians and others who are not wolves in this whole series. Fantastic plot lines and concepts, but there are a lot of characters and plots to keep track of as the series progresses.
This was a really good novella. (Surprise...Freebie!) Great characters and a page flying story line. This is definitely something I wouldn't mind reading again. It had action, emotions, some suspense, steamy scenes, and a great HEA. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for the other books in this series. This made me want to pull and few Jackie Chan moves (and probably a muscle). ;) Fun to read and pretty much anytime. As it's a novella, it'd be good for one sitting or trying to draw it out and last for a while (if you can). It made me sweat, had my muscles twitching, my neurons firing, and my mind going faster than my fingers. (And not just for the 'interesting' scenes) Hint...hint! Totally Enjoy!
More!! I loved this short story about Zola, a lioness mixed martial arts sensei in New Orleans. She was cast out of her mother's pride and has made her own way after training with the best martial arts masters in the world. Then her mother's bodyguard shows up at the door to her dojo seeking asylum. Her mother and most of the pride have been killed, and the rest are in danger. He asks her to take them in and take on her mother's role as alpha. He betrayed her in the past, but she learns that he had good reason for letting her go. Her mother had threatened her life if anyone helped her. If he stays, the attack team that killed her mother will come for him. If he goes, she will never know what might have been. This short story is a prequel to book #3, introducing Zola, but could be read as a standalone.
Zola's pride was... okay. I would have liked to see this story more developed. It was great in what the author included but it was short enough to not understand the who/what/when/why the story has occurred. I may need to read stories prior to this? I'm not certain, but as a new reader to Moria Rogers, and being this is my first book, I definitely felt lost in the story.
I'm giving her 3 stars as the book itself, the structure and story did pull me in. She has great writing in her story and I feel if it were more developed, it would have defintely hooked me and resulted in 4/5 stars. Give it a read in your time, I think you'll still enjoy it.
