This handbook is a well-written introduction to philosophical-contemplative companionships. Chapter 1 explains the essence of this new way of practicing philosophy, rooted in the tradition of contemplative philosophy. Here we learn how it has developed and what its aims are.In the following two chapters we are introduced in a very accessible language to the basic concepts (Chapter 2) and practical issues (Chapter 3) that permit us to understand this philosophical approach in greater depth.
Finally, in the last chapter, Chapter 4, we are given concrete examples of different procedures and exercises that can be used in the philosophical-contemplative companionship.
Overall, this is a very complete introduction, both theoretical and practical, for anybody interested in philosophical contemplation and in new ways of working with philosophy in practice.

Handbook of Philosophical Companionships Principles procedures exercises Ran Lahav Silvia Peronaci 9780998133003 Books Reviews
I bought at a congress this book and was delighted by the clear style, the interest of the new method presented and the intellectual stimuli I got from it. I can only suggest to get it and read it!
Clear, simple, absorbing this book shows an original way to do philosophy in togetherness.
Everyone can enrich his own life through philosophy by sharing personal experience and resonating each others,
by contemplating together, by go deep inside philosophical concepts through different philosophical texts,
by speaking and listening in a different way than we do in our normal daylife, and this book describes just how everyone can do it.
Ran Lahav has the gift of writing clearly and poetically about complex mattters. So also in this beautiful little "how to do" book on philosophical- contemplative companionships. Having been part of companionships lead by Ran Lahav for almost half a year, I have also experienced personally the power of the approach to "uplift the soul" and help in the process of "giving birth to profound ideas" by speaking from one`s inner depths, i.e. from the deeper aspects of one`s being. This is probably not the rational and logical-analytical oriented person`s cup of tea. This is why this little book is an important supplemet to the already existing approaches in philosophical practice.
After decades of experience in this field the author shares now his insight into a particular domain of philosophical practice, namely philosophical companionship, a method he developed himself. Philosophical companionship is a way of practising philosophy in a new setting, different from all those known so far participants address basic life issues after being stimulated by a previously chosen philosophical text and by means of several particular techniques they manage to "resonate" with the text and among each other thereby composing a "symphony of ideas".Therefore, this goes beyond mere rational and analytical understanding. After a theoretical introduction, the author provides clear and practical information on the method.
This is a profound book about how to achieve profound philosophical understanding.
